my macbook is a 2017, 15inch macboook pro. I got in 2023, shortly after I came to Malaysia. Last year, I found the internal storage is bad, and will disappear in system operation. I suspected that it’s because the storage is damaged and will stop work under hot temperature. Since this laptop’s onboard storage is not upgradable, and too expensive to replace all the logic board, I will leave it as it be, I attemp to boot from external storage. I find Macbook have a very different system design, it don’t have bios menu, and have to press key pairs to switch to different startup mode. To switch to a ecternal device, option key should be pressed during poweron process, then it transit to a boot device selection. I tried to boot from a nvme ssd, and it succeed and work properly. For more protabillity, I pharsed another 2.5inch SSD enclosure and 256GB second hand SSD. This external SSD can achieve around 250MB/s read and 30MB/s write speed.
